The Insider’s Tour
Want to know a local’s favorite one day loop? Get up early to enjoy the sunrise over the rock formations of Valley of the Gods, then make your way over to Sand Island to view the enigmatic petroglyphs. Stop for breakfast in Bluff or Blanding, as you need to keep your energy high!
Spend some time at the excellent Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum, where you can learn about the ancestral Puebloan cultures before you continue your drive to the Butler Wash Ruins. Walk the mile round trip and imagine life in this lush canyon in a dwelling on the side of a cliff. Next walk out to Cave Towers for a picnic lunch with a view of thousand-year-old masonry.
If you still have energy, drive up to the Bears Ears Buttes for an expansive look at the entire national monument. Finally, drive down to Muley Point for a lingering sunset vista with Monument Valley, Navajo Mountain, Sleeping Ute Mountain and more in the background.
