World-class climbing abounds on BLM lands in the Indian Creek area, with more than 1,000 routes in the corridor. The multi-pitch climbs require a 60-meter rope and should only be attempted by experienced climbers. Please be respectful of private property in the area. There are vault toilets and nearby designated camping at Indian Creek. For more information about climbing in the area, check out Karl Kelley's "Creek Freak" or Mountain Project.

Special Considerations

Indian Creek is a remote climbing area so be prepared to pack in water and food and pack out trash. There are limited bathroom facilities in the area. Do not attempt rock climbing without proper gear and experience. It is illegal to access archaeological sites with ropes without a permit.

     Enjoy Cultural Sites Without Ropes

    Enjoy Cultural Sites Without Ropes

This protects delicate ancestral rock imagery and structures from damage caused by falling rocks and looting. The use of climbing gear, like ropes, to access cultural sites is illegal.

    Pack Out Your Poop

    Pack Out Your Poop

Human and pet waste threatens fragile ecosystems and drinking water for hikers and wildlife alike. Poop near cultural sites is disrespectful to the Tribes and Pueblos that revere this sacred cultural landscape. When facilities are not available, please pack out your waste.

    Stay on Established Trails

    Stay on Established Trails

Stay on existing trails and routes to protect the living biocrust. Once stepped on, this fragile crust takes years to regrow.
