Bears Ears Archaeology Teacher Workshop

Are you a teacher in the Four Corners area? Join an exciting upcoming workshop offered by Bears Ears Partnership, Project Archaeology, Southern Utah University, Bureau of Land Management, and the Institute for Education.
This workshop takes place June 10-12 at the Canyon Country Discovery Center in Monticello, UT. This opportunity is FREE for teachers in San Juan County, Utah.
Learn first-hand how to help your students engage in inquiry-based learning through cross-curricular, student-centered lessons, place-based experiences, and meaningful interactions with elders. The Project Archaeology: Investigating Shelter curriculum is aligned to grade 3-5 state standards and helps educators expand and deepen social studies content for their students. At this workshop participants will experience each lesson as a learner through modeled instruction, gain new perspectives from descendant community presenters, analyze historic data related to authentic archaeological sites, discover new ways to engage students at museums and historic sites, and learn how to improve classroom citizenship and promote responsible use of public lands.
The workshop includes:
- High-quality educational materials and modeled instruction
- Edge of the Cedars Museum admission
- Excursion to archaeological sites within Bears Ears National Monument
- Cultural presentations by local indigenous educators
- Professional Development certificate for 30 PD hours
- Continental breakfast, lunches and snacks
