An Evening with the Wetherill-Grand Gulch and Cedar Mesa Perishables Projects
In the mid-1980s, the Wetherill-Grand Gulch Project was established to track down the expedition routes and extensive collections made by avocational archaeologists a century before in the Bears Ears area of southeastern Utah, as recounted in the book Cowboys and Cave Dwellers. Taking their investigations to the next step, the Cedar Mesa Perishables Project has spent the past decade documenting the thousands of textiles, baskets, wooden implements, and other organic artifacts in these collections with a collaborative team of Western and Indigenous Pueblo researchers. In this presentation, members of the two projects come together for the first time to discuss their work and the future of these collections.
This presentation will be held at the Bears Ears Education Center, and streamed on zoom. Register below for the Zoom link!
